Important QCD details you should know

Mark Byelich |

We’re back after a week off with a brand-new Weekly Webinar for you! This week Mark spends a little less time hitting the headlines and market trends, and more time focused on the Financial 15 topic, which for this week is Qualified Charitable Distributions.

But first, Mark kicks off the discussion with his usual Slott updates, where he spends some time talking about inherited IRAs and Simple IRAs, as well as creditor protection. Building off of previous conversations he has had about retirement plan creditor protection and bankruptcy protection, Mark takes some time to discuss how different IRAs are impacted by changes with the SECURE Act and the SECURE Act 2.0, and how yours may or may not be protected.

Mark then takes some time to go over the latest numbers coming out of the markets. As of June 2nd, the Dow Jones was up 2.17%, the S&P500 was up 1.88%, and the NASDAQ was up 2.07%. Year-to-Date, all markets remain up, with both the S&P500 and the NASDAQ being up in the double digits. Mark spends a couple of minutes talking about investing in bonds vs the markets before moving on to focus on this week’s topic: qualified charitable distributions.

Important Qualified Charitable Distributions Details You Should Know

Mark spends the last half of the Weekly Webinar discussing what qualified charitable distributions are and then provides some key details about QCDs that are important for you to know. Qualified Charitable Distributions were designed originally to handle required minimum distributions (RMDs) from IRAs that the account holder doesn’t necessarily want or need during their lifetime. Mark introduces Qualified Charitable Distributions as a solution for those looking to reduce or eliminate RMDs from their financial landscape. Qualified Charitable Distributions allow for distributions to go directly from your IRA to a charity, however, there are certain limitations and restrictions with this option which Mark details out throughout the rest of the podcast.

If you’re worried about how RMDs will impact your finances in retirement and think that Qualified Charitable Distributions could be an answer for you, this is an episode you’ll really want to watch.
