Assembling your Retirement Team
Mark is back again with another weekly webinar full of information regarding current headlines, IRA and retirement issues from the Ed Slott Group, weekly updates, and his financial planning topic: building your retirement team. He begins the webinar by discussing a recently published article that shares 5 reasons why you may want to think twice before opening a Roth IRA. Mark then answers some questions from viewers and shares updates from the Slott Group as well as his reflections on the current state of the stock market. For this week’s Financial Fifteen topic, Mark shares his advice on how you can build the perfect retirement team.
Assembling your Retirement Team
Building the right retirement team for you takes time and intention. In this segment, Mark discusses why you should have a team helping you, who should be on that team, and what qualifications and experiences they should have.
For Mark, having a retirement team that you can depend on and trust provides stability, confidence, and comfort. When it comes to building your dream retirement team, Mark suggests having three folks. A good retirement team has the following:
- A Certified Financial Planner (C.F.P) – be sure that your advisor is a fiduciary meaning they will act in your best interest before anything else. You’ll also want to make sure that your advisor is able to provide tax advice because this is one of the most impactful areas of your retirement planning.
- A Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) – Having a C.P.A. means you’ll have peace of mind knowing that they can provide education, proven proficiency, and ethical requirements. Mark also suggests hiring a C.P.A. who is “forward facing” meaning they have the bigger picture of your future goals and upcoming life changes in mind when advising you for what moves to make.
- An Attorney – Having a good attorney in your retirement plan means you’ll have professional guidance as you navigate things such as estate planning and other legal matters surrounding your finances.
Ultimately, Mark ends the webinar urging you to rethink a DIY approach to your financial planning so that you can be sure your financial plans are comprehensive with tax efficiency at the center of it all.
